Time Management Strategies For Maximum Productivity

The time management strategies you're about to rediscover will come in handy especially if you decide to explore small business ownership in your retirement.

As soon as you break the 9 to 5 routine and begin your own small business venture, you will finally reach that freedom point where you answer to no one but yourself. However, this is probably also one of the biggest challenges.

With you being the person in charge, you will need more discipline and better time management strategies to make the most of your time and energy. The following tips on time management may serve you well as you adjust to your new routine.

It is important to remember that you're at a phase in your life where family and friends are more important than ever before. So you might consider making a master calendar for scheduling family commitments.

Also, don't forget there is a world of difference between being busy and being productive. Don't be too available. Consider an answering machine or answering service to control incoming calls. This way you can return calls at your convenience.

Try to run errands at no-rush hour times if possible. And, plan your stops as much as possible to avoid driving in circles.

Get in the habit of writing down your schedule and stop trying to commit to memory your appointments.

Certain tasks must be delegated to others (if you have a staff) so that you're free you to concentrate on growth activities such as marketing your business.

Be mindful that if you work an 8-hour day, there are only 480 minutes to each day. So you need to make every minute count. Don't let eMail suck up your time.

You must be able to work in uninterrupted chunks of time. For God's sakes, imagine what your life would be like if you physically ran to your mailbox as many times in a day as you check your Inbox? If you did, you'd probably be running a business from a mental facility.

You need to ask yourself how you're using this priceless resource known as time. And, you need to guard it jealously from people and unproductive behavior (such as checking eMail 25 times a day) that attempt to steal it from you.

Lastly, you must get rid of the clutter in your working environment. If your desk and your office looks like a bomb just went off, you've got problems. You may have more issues than time management to contend with.

Remember, you're in business to make money. As such, it is important to implement time management strategies that will help you focus on making money and leaving you with enough time for play and to be with the ones you love.
