Retirement Living:
Make It The Most Exciting Adventure Of Your Life

Retirement living overseas perhaps never entered your mind. But if you have a little adventure left in you, it's certainly worth a thought.

Think about it. Retirement living abroad affords you so many exciting opportunities. Depending on where you decide to settle, it may be a chance to learn a foreign language, interact with a new culture and broaden your overall perspective beyond your native shores.

It could also mean the opportunity to start a fun and relaxing career on a part-time basis, such as becoming a freelance travel writer or it could simply mean enjoying your retirement years in the best physical shape of your life outside of the United States.

Undertaking such an exciting activity could also have the positive effect of keeping the blues at bay.

By chosing to have a second home or a primary residence overseas, you would be joining a growing number of expats (expatriates) who have opted to live better for less outside of the United States.

Many who have chosen early retirement have been able to live comfortably in retirement mostly because they have chosen to retire in places where they could stretch the purchasing power of their retirement funds to the maximum.

One such place where many have been flocking to for many years is Panama. In fact, this Central-American country has been voted the number one retirement living destination for six years running.

There are several reasons why it has attracted so many. Here are just a few.

  • low cost of living
  • affordable world class healthcare
  • modern infrastructure (roads, healthcare, high-speed internet access)
  • only 2 1/2 hour flight from Miami
  • modern conveniences (great shopping at a lower price)
  • Did you know that a medical procedure that normally costs $125,000 in the U.S. can run you as little as $15,000 in Panama (that's with a private hospital room, no less)? Even name brands and generic prescriptions are available at almost half the cost of what you would pay for them here in the U.S.

If every person nearing retirement were to come across this informantion, I wonder if there'd be any senior citizen left in the United States (especially when so many have to chose between their prescription or a good meal).

By the way, it's not by dumb luck that Panama got to be leap years ahead of other Central American countries.

You see, many of Panama's existing infrastructures were built to U.S. standards while the U.S. controlled the Panama Canal. So everything that was in place for the benefit of the U.S. troops and canal personnel stationed there, are still there and in many instances have been improved upon.

Panama is just one example. In fact there are many places where the cost of living is even lower yet. Places like Argentina, Uruguay, Nicaragua, etc... come to mind.

If you want to dramatically enhance your lifestyle on a fraction of what it costs herein the U.S., then you may want to look into retirement living overseas. Your first step should most likely start with an educational travel before deciding where you'd want to finally call a second home in retirement.

However, I realize that this idea is not for everyone, especially if you're the type who likes to be close to family. If that description fits you, well, there's always retirement living in the many beautiful retirement communities of sunny Southwest Florida, North Carolina etc.
