Finding The Best Small Business Ideas That Really Excite You
Thebest small business ideas are not the ones you read about in entrepreneur magazine or in any other publication. And if you're looking for something you can implement in retirement, you should have more than a slight interest in them.
Actually, I learned the above the hard way. I didn't believe it at first. When I decided to leave corporate America behind many years ago, I thought I'd simply come up with a few
small business ideas
and go for the one that has the greatest profit potential.
Three years and tens of thousands after settling on what I thought was one of the best small business ideas there was, I got so impatient and so bored, I would have cheerfully paid someone to take over the business. I wanted out as quickly as possible. And I did just that.
I'm willing to bet that if you're headed for retirement, you'd like to skip such a step. I mean, I was lucky that at the time of my adventure I was in my mid-thirties. I took it on the chin and moved on. But you can imagine if I were in my mid-sixties, I wouldn't have taken it so easily.
So how do you decide on the one idea to implement in your retirement that will bring profit and joy? One word. Passion. Make sure whatever you finally decide to do, you bring passion into it. Otherwise, you'll just end up with one of those 'after retirement jobs' with the worst possible boss, you.
So, let's agree that you'll forget about the latest fad; and, promise that you'll be very careful when considering those low-cost franchises.
Instead, think about what you love to talk about and read about. Is there something that you do day after day without thinking about it and that you wouldn't mind doing it for as long as you're alive? Hey, how about the job you did before you retired? I don't suppose there is something you learned from that experience you could leverage in retirement, is there?
Now hold on. Before you dismiss that last idea thinking that you may not have enough money to open a store front, I'm not exactly asking you to jump into anything that would require you to deplete your retirement fund. After all, I'm a firm believer in testing ideas thoroughly before setting on anything. Remember, I learned that the hard way.
You must test, test and test. I don't care if you got your best small business ideas from Donald Trump and Warren Buffett. Test to idea to see if there's a market willing to pay money for the product or service you plan on selling.
I know what you're thinking. How could you know if something will work or not unless you jump in with both feet? Well, that's a good question. That's exactly why I invite you to see how these best small business ideas were implemented with the least amount of monetary investment, the least amount of risk and almost no business overhead. That's right. No employees, no office rent space etc.
If you've got an idea that you're really passionate about, or even if you're still looking for one, I hope you find the inspiration you need by paying attention to these regular, ordinary folks just like you and me as they share their stories of success with their online businesses.
